Nationwide Distribution of CCC Members

CCC Objectives

1. Raise awareness around the new ‘front line’ in the war against COVID: young physicians across specialties whose expertise may not lie in critical care

2. Highlight a new digital-first community emerging among cardiology fellows to facilitate knowledge sharing, provide unified guidance, and promote better safety practices

3. Encourage the public to support these new faces of medicine -- #StayAtHome and #WearRedMondays, beginning on National Doctor’s Day (Monday 3/30).

Context

A new digital community for cardiologists in training has emerged during the initial phase of this global pandemic - the COVID-19 Cardiology Coalition (CCC) - bringing 250 fellows from across the country together to educate and support each other during the COVID crisis.

As the world comes to grips with the magnitude of the crisis, it’s become increasingly clear that medical professionals are the front line in this war. Many of these professionals are young, still in training, passionate about helping, but feeling underprepared for their newly expanded roles. There is no textbook here. No single person has “ground truth”. No single institution has definitive guidelines. These fellows cannot wait for vaccines and randomized controlled trials -- they simply don’t have the time. They need to rapidly accelerate their learning through real time knowledge sharing. This way, they will be better equipped to treat our patients and to address the emotional rollercoaster of being on the front lines.
